I think of it as a inside view of what life is like. Yes there is the “woohoo” (sex) action but it is pixelated out, same as when your sim has a shower/bath or using the toilet it is pixelated out. I’ve been playing sims for 21 years all the way from sims 1 up to sims 4 all on pc and different sims give off different play. Definitely can be a great game for people of all ages since it has so much to offer! But as others have said, as far as gaming these days goes, this game is very tame in comparison to other popular games, and it can encourage good decision making (sims will have consequences if the player does not take care of their needs and finances). I would warn parents to limit their kids screen time with this game since it can be very consuming. The only downside to a game with no clear goal and so many options is the additive quality.

There are so many cool things you can do visually and stylistically that make the creator use problem solving skills and really push the limits of their creativity. The woohoo feature does allude to sex but it’s so tame that younger players probably wouldn’t even catch on to what it’s meant to be.įurther, the game encourages creativity, especially with the build feature. The game does require a lot of reading and text so I do think tweens might be more interested than a younger crowd). I put 12+ for my rating just because I feel like younger kids might not be able to navigate the game with as much ease independently (though these days kids are great at using technology so that’s probably not a concern.

He’s seen more violence in in tv shows and movies honestly. There’s nothing inappropriate that he sees and he enjoys the clear and vibrant graphics and simply wants to see some of the crazier parts of the game like cowplants and aliens. I watch a 5-year-old kid who likes to watch me play/help me make choices in the game, and we just stay away from romance since it doesn’t interest him. So it’s really up to the players imagination to make anything more dark or intense if they desire, so I believe there’s plenty for a younger audience to enjoy without it ever feeling mature.

The deaths are never graphic and honestly a little bit amusing, alcohol is replaced with juice, violence is minimal and comical, and the romance is as tame as what you’d see in a Disney movie. All the features that mimic real life do so in an hyperbolic manner. The nice thing about the The Sims 4 is that it’s a goofy game at its core.
